Youth Center Press Release

The Sacramento Monarchs team will join with volunteers from Wells Fargo, Dome Printing and Maloof Sports & Entertainment to donate a Monarchs Reading and Learning Center to Lincoln Youth Center. The Center will receive a complete makeover with the donation of a computer lab, Wells Fargo One-On-One Room, Dome Printing Reading Lounge, game room and sports-themed outdoor landscape project. The Center will be unveiled in an afternoon ceremony to youth who will benefit from its services.

The Lincoln Youth Center was established through the cooperative effort of the Lincoln Police Activities League, Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center, Lincoln Recreation Department and Re-Direct. The Center will centralize services for youth in the Lincoln area, and is currently the only after school program of its kind in the community. Services include mentoring, counseling, recreational programs, life skills and educational training and much more.

The 2008 Monarchs season marks the 12th consecutive year in which the Monarchs have adopted reading and literacy as a community initiative. This event is in conjunction with the WNBA’s Read to Achieve initiative, which aims to build a lifelong love of reading in youth by providing greater access to books and technology.

Come and visit us at our unveiling ceremony on  Tuesday, September 2, 2008, between 4 - 5 p.m.
